University of South-Eastern Norway

University of South–Eastern Norway (USN) will provide the teaching and laboratory work in the second semester, covering manufacturing of silicon-based microsystems, as well as advanced characterization techniques.

The smart systems specialization will be initiated in the second semester, where the students choose a specialization in Micro/Nano Biological Systems (MNBS) or in Cyberphysical Systems, the latter implying the course Multiphysics Modelling. MNBS combines competence in MEMS technology, in bioengineering and in micro-fluidic systems for use in biomedical applications, whereas Multiphysics Modelling goes deeper in the design and modelling of physical sensors & actuators, building on the knowledge obtained in the first semester at Aalto. The extensive laboratory work in the second semester is carried out in the state-of-the-art research laboratory “MST-Lab” at USN, being one of three nodes of the Norwegian Micro- and Nanofabrication Facility, where MST-Lab is the national centre for system integration technologies.
